Suisun City Vice Mayor Alma Hernandez Announces Mayoral Bid

(Suisun City, CA- March 22, 2022) - Suisun City Vice Mayor Alma Hernandez, a 22-year resident of Suisun City, is excited to announce her official bid for the seat of Suisun City Mayor.

“Residents of Suisun City are facing concerns about our environment, public safety, homelessness, and transportation,” Hernandez said. “I am committed to working alongside our community members while leading efforts in helping address these issues.

“My vision is that of a community that binds our strengths to carry this great City to the next level,” Hernandez continued. “I have worked and volunteered years of my life in this community to make it a better place. I know that working with community we have built a pathway to something greater in Suisun City. I am ready to tackle challenges and work with others to get us there. This is my home and I love this city.”

Hernandez, who has helped push initiatives to prioritize funding for public safety, joined the City Council in 2020 after serving two years as President of the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SHCC).

Along with Mayor Lori Wilson, Hernandez helped to increase funding for staff in the city’s fire and police departments, voted for measures to maintain the city, and supported the creation of a new city website offering transparency and city services available.

“Alma has my full support and confidence as the next Mayor of Suisun City,” current Suisun City Mayor Lori Wilson said of Hernandez. Wilson served a combined 10 years as a councilmember and mayor of Suisun City. She is now running for Assemblymember for District 11. “Alma has demonstrated her commitment to the people and the progress of this city. Under her leadership, the good work that we are already seeing the benefit of will continue, as well as new opportunities as she implements her own vision of how to move Suisun City forward.”

During the height of the pandemic, Hernandez helped to bring county resources to support individual needs and worked with community members to process emergency rental assistance program applications on behalf of the county. She also led the effort in organizing with local health leaders a pop-up vaccine clinic to ensure a healthy and sound community.

Hernandez brings more than 10 years’ experience with small businesses in her role as President and board of director with the SHCC.

“Today, it is more important than ever to support our small businesses with economic recovery and development,” Hernandez said. ‘They play a key role in our local economy by providing jobs and serving their communities. Individually, they are small, but collectively, they employ hundreds and have an economic impact in our city.”

Hernandez, who was voted in unanimously as Suisun City Mayor Pro Tem shortly after taking office, is actively engaged in various committees to ensure she continues to lead the city to fulfill its strategic plan. She currently represents Suisun City on a regional homelessness committee, co-chairs the Suisun City/Fairfield-Suisun

School District Joint Advisory Committee, chairs the Suisun City Environment

and Climate Committee, and serves as one of the directors on the

Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District and Suisun-Solano Water Authority boards.

In addition, Hernandez was recently appointed to the Transportation,

Communications, and Public Works Policy Committee for the League of California Cities and was sworn-in as an alternate board member for the Solano

Transportation Authority.

“Alma has the ability to analyze and come up with reasonable solutions with great expectations that are appropriate to the residents who call Suisun City Home,” Fairfield Mayor Harry Price said of Hernandez.

Hernandez is honored to be endorsed by current Suisun City Mayor Lori Wilson, a candidate for Assemblymember representing District 11, and City of Fairfield Mayor Harry Price.
